My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 13th September 2022 - To Widecombe Fair

Back with my friends on Dartmoor for a walk across Hamel Down from Firth Bridg to Widecombe Fair. A typical atmospheric Dartmoor day with low cloud and rain on the way there and on the way back. Relatively dry whilst in Widecombe although it was clear the weather had reduced the numbers attending.

Up to Grimspound and into the cloud and rain

Going up the first steeper bit to Hameldown Tor

The trig point and Cairn near Hameldown Tor.

A warning sigh about fires on the morr which Brenda had picked up made it look like she might be about to spontaneously combust!

On Hamel Down the clouds suddenly blew away.

Going down.

Widecombe-in-the-Moor and the annual fair which was being held again for the first time in 3 years. The rain eased for a while.

Steeply back up again on the way back

We spent some time looking for the little Stoneslade Cross which we couldn't find.

The Highland cattle near the road by the cars.
