My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 30th June 2026 - Guiting Power

On some new paths (at least for me) from Guiting Power going past the Cotswold Farm Park and returning through Kineton. 7 miles and only 500 feet elevation.

Friday 12th June Bude South

Bude following the coast south to Widmouth Bay, inland and returning along the Bude canal. 7 miles  with 600 feet ascent. A very strong westerly wind bringing sea in the sea mist so it felt like it was raining.

Wednesday 10th June 2026 Bude north

Always good to be back on the coast. A perfect day for a walk with bright sunshine and a cool breeze (well a bit more than that on the cliff tops). Following the route of my Dartmoor friends the day before, sadly I wasn't able to join them on that day but great to meet up with them before they left. A countryside walk to begin with through the green lanes to Ploughill and Northcott beach then up to Sandy Mouth returning on the coast path. 8 miles  with 1000 feet of ascent.

Tuesday 2nd June 2026 - Elmley Castle

From Elmley Castle we took the steeper route up Hill Lane almost to the ridge just below the Tower. Then down over Even Hill to Great Comberton. Returning through Little Comberton and Bricklehampton. 7 miles and 800 feet ascent. Perfect walking conditions and much cooler than recently. There were showers around but they missed us!
