My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 28th November 2023 - Cleeve Hill

Starting from the car park next to Warden's Wood on Cleeve Hill. Initially going alonside the Breakheart Plantation, past the abandoned car to Postlipp Mills. Then past Postlip Hall and back on to Cleeve Hill by the little reservoir below the quarries. Up the long valley to the memorial tree, through the butterfly area below the mast and back to the start. 7 miles with 1100 feet ascent Title of the document Click Here to Download gpx file

Just past the mill we stopped for coffee break where the horse took a real interest in Roger

Tuesday 21st November 2023 - Barrow Wake

From Barrow Wake on some new paths down through the cycle trails park to Great Witcombe. Then up to the Cotswold Way and on to the  Roman Villa for a lunch stop. Around the edge of Cooper's Hill and some particularly muddy terrain. Steeply down the hill towards Brockworth and then steeply back up again. Returning though Brockworth Wood, past The Buckholt through Birdlip and back to the start. By then the group had split into three as our leader seemed to be unsure of the  way back. Very muddy in places.  11 miles with 1865 feet of ascent.

The view across to Cooper's Hill from Barrow Wake.

Some of the footpaths in this area are closed in anticipation of the work to complete the missing link on the A417.

Very, very muddy in places after so much rain.

Very autumnal on the way up to the Cotswold Way.
