My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 31st October 2023 - Smeardon Down, Dartmoor

A superb walk with my old friends. From Smeardon Down, Dartmoor. Typical Dartmoor weather for the time of year. Visiting White Tor, Roos Tor and Great Coombe Tor. An excellent lunch afterwards at the Peter Tavy Inn. Just 6 miles.

Going up Smeardon Down with the cloud hanging low.

Great Staple Tor but we didn't go there today.

Monday 30th October 2023 - Higher White Tor

Really good to be back on Dartmoor walking with Tom to Higher White Tor going past Crockern Tor, Littaford Tor and Longaford Tor.

Tuesday 24th October 2023 - Bibury

A fine sunny day on a route most of us had not done before. Starting in Bibury with a loop north  going past Saltway Barn, back through Ablington Downs  to Winson, Coln Rogers and Calcot. Returning along Potlicker's Lane, the edge of Ablington and Arlington. Exactly 10 miles with 750 feet of ascent

Going down through Lamorough Banks

Tuesday 10th October 2023 Bourton-on-the-Water

From Bourton-on-the-Water following the Wardens Way to Naunton and returning on the Windrush Way. A bright sunny morning but with an autumnal feel. 10 miles and 800 feet ascent.

Very autumnal as we came into Lower Slaughter

On the new footpath, much better than walking on the busy road.

A coffee stop by the wild flower meadow.

Going down to Naunton

Tuesday 3rd October 2023 - Stow on the Wold

This weeks walk from Stow-on-the-Wold going through Maugersbury, Wyck Rissington and Icomb.

Very curious young bullocks closely followed us across the field.

Wyck Rissington, very picuturesque Cotswold village.

Icomb

Stow comes back into view.
