My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 19th January 2021 - New Bike

My new bike finally arrived.  This is very different because it has an electric motor built into the rear hub. This is a challenging route for me would not have been possible without assitance from the motor. 20 miles with 2300 feet of ascent. Even with the motor on the very steep hills you are still working hard. It's  my intention to use the motor very sparingly - almost as a set of extra low gears - I'm still wanting to get a good workout.

My route took me through Charlton Abbots, Roel Gate, Guiting Power Kineton, Temple Guiting and Hailes. A dull and windy day.  These photos were taken with my phone.

Friday 15th January 2021 - Sudeley Castle Hill

After months of trying I finally got up Sudeley Castle Hill! First a stop at Cotswold Pie Man the bottom in Winchcombe to get some supplies for the weekend and then up into the fog on the top of the escarpment.

Tuesday 12th January - My Longest Ride so far.

40 miles with 2000 feet of ascent and feeling good at the end! All done within a 7 mile radius from home following government announcements last night.

Also in this week I did 100 miles in a seven day period for the first time.

Thursday 7th January - Foggy Day in Winchcombe

I love the way the mist and fog a degree of mysteriousness to an ordinary scene.

My last ride of the year. 31 miles today from Winchccommbe and through Didcote, Stanway, Stanton, Laverton, Buckland, Broadway, Childswickham, Sedgeberrow, Alderton and Gretton. These are some of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds.

After a break of 6 years I started cycling again during the first lockdown. 5 mile circuits at first then slowly increasing the distance, My longest ride so far is 35 miles. Just over 1500 miles since I started and just over 30,000 feet of ascent.
