My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 1st March 2022 - A walk in the forest from St Briavels

Nine of us on a dull day starting from St Briavels in the Forest-of-Dean. A tough walk with much mud, some steep climbs and fallen trees blocking the paths. Our route took us through Slade Bottom, partly up Wyegate Hill, to Bigsweear Bridge then following Offas Dyke path for a while beside the River Wye.  A steep ascent through the woods to St Briavels Common and back to the start.

Tuesday 22nd February 2022 - Ebrington

Nine on the walk today with a very mixed variety of weather.

Starting from Ebrington. On to Foxcote House. Then through Nebsworth and Hidcote Boyce. A strong wind with bright sunshine at first followed by two short bands of heavy rain with the conditions improving at the end of the walk.

About 7 miles with 700 feet feet of ascent.

Wednesday 16th February 2022 - Sherborne

A recce for me and a navigation exercise for Suzanne and Melissa.

Starting from Ewepen Barn at Sherborne. Firstly out to the A40 and then sharply back the Sherborne road. Across the Sherborne Brook and up through Haycroft Bottom.  Almost to Clapton-on-the-Hill and back to Sherborne.
