My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 30th July 2024 - Apperley

A solo walk from Apperley and a recce for another day. In the middle of another heat wave I was out early to avoid the high temperatures. A very easy mainy flat route initially going north passing Deerhurst and going around the edge of the golf cours for Tewkesbury Park Hotel. Returning south following the bank of the River Severn to the camp site next to The Coal House Inn. Then a short climb up to the pretty village of Apperley. 7 miles with 200 ft ascent.

St Mary's Church, Deerhurst

I came through the gate in the middle with all the cows around.

The golf course at Tewkesbury Park Hotel - there is a very well manicured path around the edge to encourage you to not go across the golf course.

The boat house opposite the Lower Lode Hotel.

Lower Lode Hotel on the other side of the river

I then followed the riverbank for 3 miles to the Coal House Inn......

....adjacent camp site. Note the caravans raised on stilts to avoid being flooded when the river is high

Going up to Apperley with May Hill in the far distance....

.....and, the Malvern Hills
