My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 28th June 2022 Malvern Hills South

A solo walk to explore the southern part of the Malvern Hills and a possible recce for another day. Starting from the car park below British Camp and then up to British Camp. Along the ridge to Hangman's Hill and down to the Obelisk. Next up to the top of Midsummer Hill and down steeply to Hollybush. Steeply up Ragged Stone Hill - one of the few hills in the range I have not been on before. It's such a steep climb up and down it is unlikely I wll go back up again! From Whiteleaved Oak I followed the minor road to The Gullet up the side of Swinyard Hill and back to the start on the Three Choirs Way. About 9 miles with 2000 feet of ascent.

British Camp

The Obelisk at Eastnor - 90 feet high and erected in 1812. In memory of members of the Somers Cocks family. A grade 2 listed building it has been refurbished with some new stones since I was last there.

I guess this is why it is called Ragged Stone Hill
