My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Monday 16th June 2025 - Gloucester Cathederal

A fascinating trip to Gloucester Cathederal. There were two tours with our very own Stewart Aylward  as our guide.  Stewart is an official guide and regularly shows groups arond. Firstly to the top of the tower, a total of 269 steps! Stopping on the way up to see and hear the St Peter’s bell strike 11.00am – it was loud! Then to the ringing chamber and belfry. Finally to the top where we were rewarded with fine views acroos the city. The second tour was in the cathederal where we learned about the construction of the building through the centuries and the history. Stewart certainly has an incredible knowledge of this place. A super lunch afterwards at the Fountain Inn.
