My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Wednesday 26th June 2024 - Childswickham

The third and final day of the temporary heat wave and very hot, short, slow walk from Childwickham with the Winchcombe Probus group. 4 miles and flat. Followed by an excellent lunch at the Childswickham Inn.

Tuesday 25th June 2024 - Chedworth

Seven of us for the walk today starting from the National Trust site at Chedworth Villa. The second day of the temporary heat wave and it was hot, fortunately we were in the woods for part of the walk. 7 miles with 600ft ascent. All had lunch and or coffee at the end.

Going up to the highest point.

Just above Chedworth

On the old airfield.

Haymaking and some of us were fascinated by the way the bales were wrapped in polythene using a giant 'clingfilm' machine.

Tuesday 18th June 2024 - Stow on the Wold

A shorter walk today as I joined the 'Fivers' group for a walk from Stow on the Wold. Down the hill towards Upper Swell, then across to Lower Swell to follow the Heart of England Way to Hyde Mill. Returning on the Macmillian Way through Maugersbury. A fine warm sunny morning.

Tuesday 4th June - Winchcombe Orbital

A circular walk around Winchcombe on some new footpaths. This walk was developed for the recent Winchcombe Walking Festival.  A dull day with some annoying intermittent rain in the midlle. 10.5 miles with 1400ft ascent

Hailes ahead but we didn't go there
