My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 29th March 2022 Watermeadows Car Park Sherborne

Starting from Watereadows car park near Sherborne.  Our route took us through Windrush, Little Rissington, Great Barrington and Great Rissington.

A little bit disappointing to have such a dull day after the wonderful warm sunny spring days over the last two weeks!

An easy 11 miles with only 600 feet of ascent.

A dead tree still dominating the landscape.

Next to the River Windrush - possibly an old pumping station

Sunday 20th March 2022 - Yanworth

With the Cleeve ramblers. A figure of eight walk going through Yanworth and by the Chedworth roman villa. A bright warmer spring day. Surprising just how much the ground has dried out.

About 9 miles with 750 feet of ascent.

Initially past the Hangman's Stone - a Neolithic remnant.

Spring is coming

Site of the Chedworth roman villa

Just above the site of the villa is the disused railway line - disappearing here into the tunnel which comes out in Chedworth. Note the bat boxes on the trees.

The tunnel exits just below the farm

Sunday 13th March 2022 - Winchcombe

A walk from Winchcombe with the Cleeve ramblers. Out past Postlip Mill and Postlip Hall and on to Cleeve Hill. Past the Club House and then across to Nottingham Hill and returning over Langley Hill.

About 8.5 miles with 1200 feet of ascent
