My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 13th December 2022 - Alderton

A solo walk into a cold winter wondrland. We don't often get conditions like this. Usually when we get some snow the sun comes out the next day and it melts on the trees and hedges. This week we have had continual freezing temperatures so the snow has stayed on the trees. My walk followed the Winchcombe Way from Alderton around Dumbleton Hill and back - 6 miles.

Sunday morning 11th December Winchcombe in the Snow

A snowy December morning in Winchcombe - lots more snow fell after these photos were taken.

Tuesday 6th December 2022 - Great Rollright

A superb winter morning for walking. Clear views and cold. We soon warmed up. Starting in Great Rollright and going to Hook Norton the edge of Whichford and Long Compton. 10.5 miles with 1000 feet of ascent

St Andrew's church, Great Rollright.

To the edge of Hook Norton and an unusual collection on this driveway.

The footpath took us past the famous victorian family owned Hook Norton brewery.

In nearby fields their shire horses

Doctor's Barn with Brailles hill in the distance behind.

Long Compton below. Relatively warm in the sunshine but a noticable drop in temperature in the shaded woodland.

Across the fields

Over the damaged bridge - safe for walkers but not horses.

Surprised to see the cattle still in the fields - usually in the barns over winter. A little bit of a mudbath!

Tuesday 29th November 2022 - A Misty Walk from Hidcote

A  more typical day for the time of the year with mist, fog and no views. Quite cool too but we soon warmed up. From Hidcote to Hidcote Boyce, Ebrington and Foxcote. |Just under 7 miles with 600 feet of ascent
