My Country Walks

Welcome to my new blog following my move to the Cotswolds in early 2018.

Previously living on the edge of Dartmoor I shared details of my walks on Dartmoor on my previous blog My Dartmoor Walks. As I explore this new area I will share details of the routes here.

Tuesday 29th April 2025 - Bere Alston

Out with the Dartmoor Tuesday group. Starting at Bere Alston station. In the afternoon a tour of the gardens at Rumleigh House. 8 miles

The station takes you back in time - probably not changed much in the last 100years!

A good job there was an electric fence between us - about 200 cows came to greet us.

The viaduct at Calstock

Rumleigh house and gardens which are open for charity viewings. A large house with parts of it dating back to the 16th century.  The current owners are still in the process of renovating the buildingbut have done some impressive work on their walled gardens.

They took us on a tour of the gardens going all the way down to the River Tavy near Calstock. Over 30 acres which was all used for market gardening until the 1980's

Monday 28th April - Waterfall on the East Dart, Dartmoor

Back on Dartmoor for a few days and an opportunity to do one of my favourite walks the little waterfall on the East Dart river. Returning via Stannon Tor and Hartland Tor

A really relaxing place
